Shoma: I started with a sketch of an angel I was excited about, but Sunny wasn’t feeling it, he said it was missing something and he was right. We started over and this one fell into place. The field of blossoms feel alive, the colors feel joyful, she’s flying but she’s still on earth, enjoying the moment. I loved doing the white on her dress, because I feel the purity in it and it flows so gently even though it’s made of sharp angles.
Sunny: This one’s inspired by Sophia (my spiritual teacher) and she’s basically a real-life angel. She sees my soul even when I can’t, and I want to be like her when I grow up. She doesn’t identify with her physical body so I drew her hovering to show that she’s in the world but not of it. If I had to choose one of my pieces to prove that a picture is worth a thousand words, it would be this one because no matter how I try to explain her, this painting captures a grace that words never could.
