Shoma: We have an owl who likes to put on a concert in our backyard every night. At first I thought it was a little eerie, but eventually I heard the music. Finally seeing him in broad daylight was what inspired the painting. He’s a cute bird with huge eyes and he just watches me walking around my yard. It’s an intense feeling but it’s also full of softness and innocence. That’s what I want to show you: what it’s like to get lost in his eyes.
Sunny: We live out in the country where it gets really dark at night. Hearing Mr. Owl, when I’m not expecting it, has scared the crap out of me on multiple occasions. That’s why I wanted to make this painting a little unsettling while keeping our style. The night sky is lit up, the mushroom trees are out to play, and the moon is alive, all things you can fully appreciate on a different plane of consciousness.
