Shoma: During my pilgrimage to Mt. Kailash (Shiva’s home in the Himalayas), I had a sprained ankle and did the 30 mile hike with a brace around my leg. I chanted Shiva’s name with each step and I was going faster than I would have if my leg was perfectly fine. If I’m being honest, it felt like Shiva was carrying me and I was in it for the ride. He’s done the heavy lifting for this painting too, and completing it took the same kind of surrender.
Sunny: When we were in Malibu, I was reading a book called The Experience of God where Ram Dass, Wayne Dyer, Louise Hay and other high beings talk about their experiences of God. I didn’t feel connected to God at that point so I was both angry and hurt that they had their experiences and I hadn’t, and I felt truly alone. Out of nowhere, a wave of compassion warmed my heart and I knew that it was Shiva. I thought that he was the god of destruction which made it even more confusing. I wanted to imbue this with some of that compassion and show you how I felt.
